Why We Dilate Your Eyes
We understand that nobody loves getting their eyes dilated. It can be a little frustrating for a couple of hours after your appointment to not be able to do all the things you’d normally be able to do.
Eye Dilation Is Very Important
Although eye dilation seems inconvenient, it’s really important. Remember that there are a number of different components that make up a thorough eye exam. Some of them have to do with how well you see… But others have to do with the health of your eyes. Having your eyes dilated allows us to actually see what is going on inside your eyes.
Normally, your pupils are closed and too dark to see anything. We use special drops to widen (dilate) your pupils. This makes it easier to see what is going on in your retina and optic nerve. This also makes it easier to diagnose and prevent disease.

Be Sure To Come To Your Exam Prepared
Remember that after your eyes are dilated your vision will be blurry and your eyes will be sensitive to light for a few hours. If you have a favorite pair of sunglasses, bring them along! Many people find that it’s also a good idea to bring someone with you to drive you back to work or home. Driving may be difficult due to the light sensitivity and blurred vision.
